TOPIC: Life through the Spirit
TEXT: Ex. 20:1 – 20;
Rom. 8:12 – 17; Matt. 21: 28 – 32
PREPOSITION
INTRODUCTION
In the time past Moses and all that lived in his time
before Jesus lived their life to please God and they were expected from God to
live by the Law of God and through the Law they were justified and prepared for
eternal life hence one may say that their modus operands was the Law; in our
time, the Lord Our Lord Jesus has taken us to a more higher level of operating
through the spirit for what the law could not do since it was limited by the
flesh, God did. Rom. 8.3 Christ
is the end of the Law, in order to bring righteousness to everyone who
believes. Rom. 10.4
BODY
The Law was given as a guide to direct the falling nature
of man into God’s Obedience that by living in obedience to the Law, God’s
people will have a life of righteousness and right standing with God. Furthermore,
it was God’s desire that His people will love Him first by opening up every
aspect of their life to God and reverencing Him; secondly, by letting the love
of God in them to extend to their neighbours and at such reflect their union or
relationship with God on their follow neighbours.
The main Idea is that God’s people when they have fully lived
out this life of standard through The Law, they will only be reflecting a God
like life which was supposed to be a medium to draw men (the hidden nations) back
to God.
However, God’s people failed in fulfilling the law and at
such needed something better than the Law.
God sent His son to live the life that He desired us to
live so that by looking at Him; we will live His life of Holiness which is also
the accomplishment of the Law.
The primary lesson from the law is Love, first towards
God and secondly towards our neighbours. Christ lived this life of love John 17 and commissioned us
to live this kind of life but also knows that the fallen man is not sufficient
enough to live this God desired life on His own therefore God made provision of
the Holy Spirit whose mission is to direct man towards God’s love and life.
Now to live by the spirit is to live a life of God’s
love:
“If you love me,
you will keep my commands and I will ask the Father, and He will give you
another Counsellor to be with you forever. He is the Spirit of truth. The world
is unable to receive Him because it doesn’t see Him or know Him. But you do
know Him, because He remains with you and will be in you. I will not leave you
as orphans; I am coming to you. John
14.15-18
“But now I am going away to Him who
sent me, and not one of you asks me, ‘Where are you going? Yet, because I have
spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless, I am
telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I
don’t go away the Counsellor will not come to you. If I go, I will send Him to
you. When He comes, He will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and
judgment: About sin, because they do not believe in me; about righteousness,
because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me; and about
judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. “I still have many
things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now. When the Spirit of truth
comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own,
but He will speak whatever He hears. He will also declare to you what is to
come. He will glorify me, because He will take from what is mine and declare it
to you. Everything the Father has is mine. This is why I told you that He takes
from what is mine and will declare it to you. John 16.5-15
The Spirit is the Guardian of God’s
people, for Gods people are like a child whose mother left in the hand of a nannie
to look after while she journey’s to come back; if the child live her life
obeying the nannie’s directives, the mother will be so glad with the child when
she comes back home but if the child chose to live her life in the way that
pleases her, she will definitely end up exposing herself to dangers which definitely,
the mother will not be pleased to meet her in.
·
The Holy Spirit is to counsel us
·
Expose us to the truth of the word
of God
·
He is to convict us when we sin
·
He will expose us to the mind of God
·
But he will not share dwell in us
when we are living according to the world.
It will be very important to note
that when the Bible talks about the world, He is actually talking about, orderly
arrangement, i.e. decoration set by inhabitants of the world; by implication,
their pattern. Now, God said that The Holy Spirit will convict this pattern of
their irregularities which they wallow in, their disorderliness which they take
for orderliness. The self-centred desires of the flesh which is to be God
centred.
Finally the Holy Spirit is God’s
guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has
purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify
him. Eph. 1.14 this is
why Rom. 8.14 states that
for all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
In conclusion, a life lived through
the Holy Spirit is a life that is in Obedience to the directions of the Holy
Spirit, a life that loves God and then His neighbour.
May The Lord enrich your hearts as
you live your life through His Spirit. Amen.
